{"id":15317,"date":"2018-04-10T12:49:55","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T16:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/?p=15317"},"modified":"2024-03-25T11:25:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-25T15:25:09","slug":"dodge-puts-the-energy-in-the-nrg-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/events\/2018\/04\/dodge-puts-the-energy-in-the-nrg-center.html","title":{"rendered":"Dodge Puts the Energy in the NRG Center!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Writing about the weather on a car-based website doesn\u2019t seem normal, but the same front that caused a snow delay at the Texas Motor Speedway near Dallas also made temperatures dip some 30 degrees below normal at the Mecum Auction in Houston this past weekend.&nbsp;Dodge was there with our Thrill Ride show and a full display of our latest high-performance vehicles.&nbsp;As one of our guests pointed out, \u201cThe heated seats in that Hellcat are working overtime today!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15342 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Img001_Mecum-Houston_Recap-614x262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Img001_Mecum-Houston_Recap-614x262.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Img001_Mecum-Houston_Recap-768x328.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Img001_Mecum-Houston_Recap-700x299.jpg 700w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Img001_Mecum-Houston_Recap.jpg 1664w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside the NRG Center,&nbsp;1,000 cars lined up to cross the block over a three-day show.&nbsp;Every seller wonders how much their is&nbsp;car worth.&nbsp;The quick answer is \u201cWhatever someone will pay on that particular day.\u201d&nbsp;Sellers can put a reserve price on their vehicles, meaning that if bidding doesn\u2019t reach that amount, the car won\u2019t sell.&nbsp;The risk is that if you set the reserve too high, bidders lose interest and the car won\u2019t sell at all.&nbsp;We saw a fair amount of that gamesmanship this past week; it worked out for some, but \u201cThe Bid Goes On\u201d process at Mecum is working overtime to make deals after a number of cars crossed the block without selling.<\/p>\n<p>In my preview article, I mentioned what Mecum referred to as \u201cAn Investment Grade Viper Collection,\u201d and when I got there in person, they weren\u2019t kidding. Turns out, the ten cars in that group came from Bernie Katz (yes, that Bernie Katz of BJ Motors \/ Viper Exchange fame). And with only 4,800 miles, this one was an outstanding example&nbsp;that sold at $55,000.&nbsp;Then, the crowd really came alive when the 1998 Viper GTS-R rolled across the block.&nbsp;Dodge had to build 100 to homologate the Viper to race at LeMans and it has the look and feel of those famous Team Oreca racecars.&nbsp;White paint, blue stripes, BIG aerodynamics &#8230; and an equal price tag to go with it.&nbsp;This amazing machine sold for $129,250.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15348 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Red-614x262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Red-614x262.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Red-768x328.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Red-700x299.jpg 700w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Red.jpg 1664w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before it crossed the block, I got to meet the owner of a red 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Demon (#670 of 3,000 USA cars) and, obviously, we talked about what he hoped it would sell for.&nbsp;The past couple auctions saw Demons sell in the $130,000 range, so that was his hope for his car.&nbsp;\u201cIt only takes 2 guys who really want it to get the price up,\u201d he said.&nbsp;They must have been in the room, because his car, with just EIGHT miles on it, sold for $140,000.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15341 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Black-614x262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Black-614x262.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Black-768x328.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Black-700x299.jpg 700w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2018-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon-Black.jpg 1664w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>HOLD THE PRESSES &#8230; that wasn\u2019t the only Demon at the auction.&nbsp;#1,148 was up for sale too.&nbsp;Pitch Black with full Demonic Red interior and only SIX miles on it.&nbsp;Sold for $170,500, which we believe is the highest price paid at auction for a Demon at this point.<\/p>\n<p>Other interesting Dodge cars at the auction\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15344 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Mecum-Houston-Featured-614x279.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Mecum-Houston-Featured-614x279.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Mecum-Houston-Featured-768x349.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Mecum-Houston-Featured-700x318.jpg 700w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Mecum-Houston-Featured.jpg 1100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Remember the TV commercial from a couple years ago where you could buy a raffle ticket to win matching Plum Crazy Challengers? There was a classic 1971 and a hot rodded 2013 and you\u2019d get both with the winning ticket. I\u2019d never get stuck in traffic!\u201d&nbsp;Someone got that opportunity when they won this 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit (that\u2019s the official name for our factory-built police cars).
