Lyft?\u00a0Nope.\u00a010 years ago, none of those things existed.\u00a0But just recently, a special event celebrated the 10th anniversary of Viper Rendezvous, a long weekend packed with all things Dodge Viper at Motorsports Park Hastings (or simply MPH for short) just outside Hastings, Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24870\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article1.jpg\" alt=\"front end of a rainbow chrome wrapped viper\" width=\"1170\" height=\"589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article1.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article1-614x309.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article1-768x387.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article1-700x352.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ryan Furstenau is a Viper guy, a track day guy, and he\u2019s the driving force behind the Furstenau Financial Viper Rendezvous. \u201cOriginally, 11 years ago, my brother and I bought a red GTS together and we wanted to go to the track with it. Woodhouse (Woodhouse Auto Family, the big Dodge dealer) had an open track day where they gave us an instructor and we spent the day turning laps.<\/p>\n<p>Our instructor was none other than Ted Hughes &#8211; another Viper guy &#8211; and after that weekend, I was hooked!\u201d That\u2019s when Ryan learned about Motorsports Park Hastings and went to have a talk with George Anderson, the track manager. After some discussions and a lot of legwork, the first Viper Rendezvous came together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24872\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article2.jpg\" alt=\"a man changing the tire on a yellow dodge viper\" width=\"1170\" height=\"564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article2.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article2-614x296.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article2-768x370.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article2-700x337.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some highlights of this 10th anniversary weekend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guests came from more than a dozen states, as far away as New Jersey and Colorado.<\/li>\n<li>An appearance by an unknown driver in an all-white suit and all-white helmet. \u201cHe jumped in my Viper and made some fast laps,\u201d says Ryan. \u201cThen, he wagered his fast lap time against a steak dinner&#8230;and EIGHT guys beat him!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Bob Woodhouse from Woodhouse Auto Family is a long-time Viper racer and had a heck of a battle with Keith Anderson. The two of them have had a multi-year friendly rivalry where they try to out-do each other for fastest lap of the weekend.\u00a0\u201cNo one had ever broken into the 1:27s at Viper Rendezvous, but Friday morning, Bob went out and did it. Then, Keith beat Bob\u2019s record on Saturday.\u00a0Then, in the very next session, Bob broke into the 1:26s for a new event record!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Friday night\u2019s social featured a band and a tour of a private car collection.<\/li>\n<li>The Women\u2019s Social in one of the on-site condos overlooked the racetrack.<\/li>\n<li>There were 10 Comp Coupes and 5 ACRXs on track; one of the largest gatherings of factory-built Viper racecars in recent years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25100\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article3-4-51.jpg\" alt=\"Fans sitting in lawn chairs and walking around a private car collection\" width=\"1170\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article3-4-51.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article3-4-51-614x136.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article3-4-51-768x171.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article3-4-51-700x156.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The on-track action was great and well, the MPH fits the Viper very well.\u00a0Ryan says, \u201cThis track doesn\u2019t have super-high-speed straights; you\u2019ll hit 120 or so (but get there quickly).\u00a0It\u2019s more of a technical course. The thing about this track is putting together the perfect lap: you\u2019ll do the first three corners right, then get the next two wrong.\u00a0That\u2019s the challenge this track presents.\u201d Ryan\u2019s original instructor, Ted Hughes, was at the first Viper Rendezvous&#8230;and he was here at the 10th.<\/p>\n<p>And while the first Viper Rendezvous started with all of 15 cars, this year, 60 shared the track.\u00a0\u201cThe challenge is that we had more people wanting to get in than could fit.\u00a0Moving forward, how do we get more folks in who want to participate without getting it too big?\u00a0That 60-car number is about perfect to balance the amount of people with track time and social activities.\u00a0As we get bigger, it\u2019s tough for me to have a meaningful conversation with folks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25101\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article6-7-81.jpg\" alt=\"dodge vipers driving around a race track\" width=\"1170\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article6-7-81.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article6-7-81-614x127.jpg 614w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article6-7-81-768x159.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article6-7-81-700x145.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1170px) 100vw, 1170px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another longtime Viper owner and hot shot is Mark Jorgensen, who\u2019s been with Woodhouse for ages (he and Bill Pemberton teamed up to sell me my own Viper years ago!). Mark says, \u201cThis was the largest turnout to date.\u00a0Competitors have more track time than they can use during the weekend so they have time to learn, improving all the time. Once you attend this event, it becomes a must-do every year for those die-hard track guys and gals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24875\" he works with to put this event on, and the sponsors that bring it all together: Complete Performance Motorsports, the Woodhouse Auto Family, Viper Parts Rack, St. Louis Race Gear, Hornady and the staff at Furstenau Financial.<\/p>\n<p>When I asked Ryan to sum up the weekend, he replied excitedly, \u201cIt was AWESOME!\u201d And he points out they\u2019ve already got the dates set for next
