There\u2019s no denying the LSx is a popular swap, but for us Dodge fans, we want to stay brand loyal \u2026 and we want more power!\u00a0And that\u2019s how we get to this story\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Karr Crapps is quickly becoming the thing of internet legend.\u00a0Scratch that, his car is. Karr says he &#8220;loved Carroll Shelby\u2019s idea of the smallest car with the biggest engine\u201d when Shelby developed the original Cobra all those years ago.\u00a0Karr wanted to make a modern day version of that, so he started with the ubiquitous Mazda Miata.\u00a0It\u2019s become the best-selling roadster of all time, so finding one to cut up was easy and cheap.<\/p>\n<p>Then, he needed a driveline and we get to thank his father for the Mopar<sub>\u00ae<\/sub> influence.\u00a0\u201cDad was always hunting for Dodges,&#8221; said Karr. &#8220;I remember a \u201970 Charger, Panther Pink.\u00a0A \u201970 440 Six Pack.\u00a0Super Bees. There was a Superbird dad found in some random guy\u2019s garage.\u201d So when it came time to do an over the top engine swap, he was destined to do a Dodge.\u00a0\u201cThe donor car was a wrecked Green Go [SRT] Hellcat, 6-speed car.\u00a0I got the Mopar engine harness from the Hellcrate kit, did a custom drive shaft and an 8.8-inch rear end. How much cutting was needed to fit the SRT Hellcat in there? \u201cI watched a lot of internet videos to see what others had done, then started cutting until it fit!\u201d\u00a0Karr said. He wound up doing more work than he needed to do and adds, \u201cMy advice to anyone trying this in the future is that if it fits, great, but if not, I\u2019d recommend taking out the firewall, transmission tunnel and then rebuilding around that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t go into too much detail on the build itself; he\u2019s done a fantastic job highlighting it on his <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCb-zmh5lPvD74uKDEAomk5A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube channel<\/a><\/u>.\u00a0Just know this wasn\u2019t a bolt-in job; lots of custom fabrication was needed to make it fit.\u00a0The exhaust is custom and sticks out of the front bumper cover.\u00a0There was no way to keep the SRT Hellcat under the stock hood, so that\u2019s been cut to allow clearance (and show off that amazing powerplant!).\u00a0The donor car was in a wreck and even simple things like sensors had to be replaced \u2026 but the guys got it done and it works brilliantly!<\/p>\n<p>As you can imagine, there\u2019s not a lot of weight to the car. \u201cEven with the [SRT] Hellcat driveline in it, the car only weighs 2,580 pounds,\u201d Karr said. That\u2019s barely 100 pounds more than the car weighed with its original four-cylinder engine!\u00a0But instead of 120 horsepower, it now has well over 700. In fact, while the SRT Hellcat is still running on its stock internals, it has a tune and some basic tweaks \u2026 and in 6th gear at 4,600 rpm on the dyno, IT SPUN THE TIRES! It spun the tires in 6th gear!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Karr says the power delivery is wicked \u201cand when you press the gas in any gear, it feels like you\u2019re in first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the flick of your right foot, \u201cHellkitty\u201d liquifies tires in seconds, but would you believe he\u2019s looking for more?!\u00a0\u201cOf course I\u2019d like to make more horsepower. Why not?!
