It was picture perfect weather\nconditions for racers as they got behind the wheel of their Challenger SRT Demons,\nRedeyes, Hellcats, Scat Packs and other Dodge muscle machines at the 2019 NMCA\nAll-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park. Favorable air temps combined\nwith a starting line that had a lot of bite made for some quick and fast\nelapsed times during the Dodge\/\/Mopar HEMI Shootout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With over 75 pre-registered entries\nfor the class, the staging lanes were packed with Challengers, Chargers, a few Durango\nSRTs, and even a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. They may have different nameplates,\nbody styles, engine combinations, and the owners might be from all over the\ncountry, but they all share a common goal – to see how fast their Mopar\nvehicles can get down the quarter-mile. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading the charge was Mark Carlyle in his Plum Crazy 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. He blazed the track with three scorching runs with an average of 9.399 seconds and with speed close to 150 mph. However, his good friend and business partner, Jason Fetter in his White Knuckle \u201cDemonKiller\u201d 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, nudged out Mark by a mere .001 seconds. Jason\u2019s three run average was 9.398. Talk about some close racing, these guys might be buddies, but when they line up next to each other on the strip, it\u2019s total warfare. What\u2019s really amazing about Mark and Jason\u2019s Redeyes is they\u2019re still running the stock superchargers, full interior, and are street driven all the time. Yet they\u2019re just as fast as many Demons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Mark and Jason\u2019s high-horsepower\nChallengers were running lightweight aftermarket wheels and drag radial tires\nto help their Redeyes plant all the power on the starting line. Speaking of\npower, the 797 horsepower, 6.2-liter HEMI in both their fast machines have\nnever had the valve covers off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another fast mover in the NMCA Dodge\/\/Mopar HEMI Shootout\nwas second generation Mopar racer John Keyes from Vernon, Michigan in his 2016\nChallenger SRT Hellcat. He clicked off a string of high-nine and low ten-second\npasses with a three-run average of 10.10 seconds to claim the overall winner\nspot in the hotly contested event. John\u2019s father, Jim Keyes, is a former NHRA Super\nStock racer who campaigned a 1967 Dodge HEMI Coronet and a 1968 Plymouth HEMI\nBarracuda for many decades. The father and son team use the NMCA Dodge\/\/Mopar\nHEMI Shootout as an opportunity to race together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While cruising the pits at Summit\nMotorsports Park, we ran into a really cool participant competing in the NMCA\nDodge\/\/Mopar HEMI Shootout. Her name is Jessica Richards, she\u2019s 24 years old\nand was racing her Destroyer Gray 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. Jessica\nmight be young, but she has plenty of experience with fast modes of\ntransportation. The Sheffield Lake, Ohio resident has raced motorcycles and\nwhen the Challenger Redeye was announce last Fall, she knew she\u2019d have to have\none. Her parents were also happy to see her go from two-wheels to four. While\ndeployed overseas for the U.S. Navy, Jessica went to Dodge.com and configured\nher Redeye. At first she was on the fence with the color, but when Jessica\nreturned stateside and saw Destroyer Gray in person at her local dealer, she\nfell in love with it immediately and placed her order. When Jessica rolls into\nthe drag strip or car show with her Redeye, she gets a lot of looks and a\nbarrage of questions. One she hears all the time is \u201cIs that your boyfriends or\ndad\u2019s car\u2026?\u201d Jessica laughs and then informs them the Challenger Redeye is her\nown, she sees many jaws drop.
