What an odd week: We had the time change, a\nfull moon, Friday the 13th, the coronavirus and out in Phoenix, extremely rare\ntorrential rain storms for three straight days. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were in the Valley of the Sun for the\nsecond annual Mecum Glendale Auction and you could feel the odd vibe. When it rains in the desert, things shut down\nsimilar to when it snows in Atlanta. Add\nin concern over the coronavirus pandemic and it was awkwardly quiet.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lighter crowds also meant fewer in-person\nbidders and at times it felt like a buyers\u2019 event. A number of No Reserve cars sold for\nsurprisingly low prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1972 Dodge Demon<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the excitement around the 2018 Dodge\nChallenger SRT\u00ae<\/sup> Demon, original Demons from the early ’70s are once again in\ndemand. This one is a restoration\ncandidate, but it IS<\/i> a real Demon. It\nsold for just $3,850.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1969 Dodge Coronet<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the Dodge Demon above, this one comes\nfrom Cinema Vehicles, a company that rents cars and trucks for television and\nfilm productions.  And like the Demon,\nthis one isn\u2019t a show winner. However,\nit is a great story and was sold for pocket change: just $1,375!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1992 Dodge Viper RT\/10<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Classic Motorsports Magazine<\/em> called the original Dodge Viper \u201cmore attainable than you thought<\/a>.\u201d Certainly, there are still some deals out there, but unmolested cars are creeping up in cost as collectors recognize the Viper\u2019s importance. This Gen 1 is essentially a brand-new car, number 54 of the 250 built that first year and showing just 772 miles on the clock. It sold for an accordingly impressive $81,400.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1970 Plymouth HEMI\u00ae<\/sup> Cuda<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any real HEMI\u00ae<\/sup> car done to this level is a six-figure machine, and this amazing car is no different. All original, 2,800 miles, 4-speed, Super\nTrack Pak. The pre-sale estimate was\nthat this car could fetch up to $180,000, but when the hammer dropped, it sold\nfor $150,700… still a nice number but no doubt the seller would have liked\nmore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite all the funkiness, our Dodge Thrill\nRides were in full swing with what turned out to be one of the more impressive\ntracks we\u2019ve had: It was bad fast and featured the single longest continuous\ndrift that we\u2019ve done in recent years!\nAdditionally, we did another Dodge Power Party where guests get to try\nout our cars on an autocross course. (Hint: if you\u2019re lucky enough to get an\ninvite to one, reply IMMEDIATELY; they\u2019re first come first serve and we\u2019ve sold\nout within minutes each time!) Big\ncongratulations to Andrew and Bruce, a father and son who battled it out for\nthe fastest time of the day.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus, when the rain finally cleared, we got\ntreated to a double rainbow over our Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all that\u2019s going on regarding the coronavirus, we\u2019re obviously paying attention to make sure everyone is as safe as possible,\nand as of this writing, we\u2019re expecting to be at the next Mecum auction in\nHouston April 2-4, but keep your eyes open as that event gets closer. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
