Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) stablemates <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Matt Hagan (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shoeracing.com\/drivers\/matt-hagan\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Hagan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shoeracing.com\/drivers\/ron-capps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Ron Capps (opens in a new tab)\">Ron Capps<\/a> qualified No. 1 and No. 2 aboard their Dodge Charger SRT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Hellcat Funny Cars, while Cruz Pedregon extended his season-long streak of qualifying in the top-half of the eliminations ladder with a sixth place seeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05014.jpg\" alt=\"Matt Hagan's car being taken off the trailer\" class=\"wp-image-51840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05014.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05014-576x384.jpg 576w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05014-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05014-992x661.jpg 992w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Reigning Funny Car world champion\nHagan returned to Epping, New Hampshire, dragstrip as the defending three-time\nwinner (2017, 2018, 2019) and in the hunt his first win of the 2021 season after\ntaking his DSR Performance Mopar<sub>\u00ae<\/sub> to the No. 1 qualifier position with his\nFriday evening run at 3.891 seconds at 331.53 mph. With that effort, Hagan\nearned three valuable bonus points and a first round bye. He powered his Dodge\nCharger SRT Hellcat to a 3.935 seconds\/ 327.11 mph pass, the quickest of the\nopening round, to find himself paired with Tim Wilkerson for a quarterfinal\nshowdown. The two competitors gave the crowd a great show and a close race but\nHagan\u2019s 3.983 sec.\/328.06\nmph was just short of Wilkerson\u2019s 3.956\/324.44\nmph winning pass to defeat the defending event champ.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05273.jpg\" alt=\"Ron Capps drag racing\" class=\"wp-image-51842\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05273.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05273-576x384.jpg 576w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05273-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05273-992x661.jpg 992w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hagan\u2019s teammate Capps earned his\nNo. 2 qualifier position with his NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat\u2019s\n3.941-second pass at 315.42 mph in Q2, and then backed that up with the third\nquickest pass in Q3 to earn a total of four bonus points. A two-time winner at\nthe New England Nationals (2014 and 2016), Capps came out strong in the opening\nround against No. 13 seed Terry Haddock in order to take advantage of a\nquarterfinal bye opportunity, but sparks appeared at half-track causing a\nsudden lack of traction. He tried to wrangle his ride but ultimately saw his\nopponent squeak by as they approached the finish. While fire made an appearance\nbeneath him, Capps brought his Funny Car to a safe stop and immediately turned\nhis focus to the next event in Norwalk, Ohio, in two weeks. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-02731.jpg\" alt=\"Cruz Pedregon drag racing\" class=\"wp-image-51827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-02731.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-02731-576x384.jpg 576w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-02731-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-02731-992x661.jpg 992w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Also qualified in the top half of\nthe Funny Car eliminations ladder for a sixth consecutive event this season was\nPedregon who earned the sixth place starting position by taking his Snap-On\nTools Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat for a 3.969 second run at 326.71 mph, the\nfastest speed in final qualifying. That effort set up with a first round\nmatch-up against No. 9 qualifier J.R. Todd and, looking to build on the\nPedregon Racing team\u2019s season-long progression, the veteran driver came out\nswinging. Pedregon hit the throttle and earned the starting line advantage with\na 0.052-second reaction time to Todd\u2019s 0.085-second launch. The two battled\nside-by side the length of the dragstrip to cross the finish line within just\n0.0003 seconds of each other. Unfortunately, the approximately two-inch margin\nof victory was not in Pedregon\u2019s favor as his 4.027\/321.73 mph run was edged\nout by Todd\u2019s winning 3.994\/322.88 mph pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dodgegarage.com\/news-api\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05671.jpg\" alt=\"Leah Pruett\" class=\"wp-image-51845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05671.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05671-576x384.jpg 576w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05671-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.api.dodgegarage.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/2124-05671-992x661.jpg 992w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In Top Fuel competition, DSR\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Leah Pruett (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shoeracing.com\/drivers\/leah-pruett\" target=\"_blank\">Leah Pruett<\/a> marked her NHRA silver anniversary with a silver ribbon displayed on her HEMI-powered dragster\u2019s roll cage and tenth seeded position heading into race day in celebration of her racing debut 25 years ago as an eight year-old in Junior dragsters. From the hit, Pruett took her DSR Precision Manufacturing Mopar Dodge\/\/SRT dragster straight down the lane for her quickest pass of the weekend at 3.771 sec.\/324.28 mph to dispose of No. 3 qualifier Justin Ashley in the opening round. Pruett had a similarly strong run in the quarterfinals against No. 4 seed and Top Fuel points leader Steve Torrence, posting a 3.811\/323.12 pass to her opponent\u2019s 3.823\/320.13, but a quicker start gave him the edge he needed and the holeshot victory to end her day.
