Matt Hagan,\nthe current track record holder at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, and his\n11,000-horsepower Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) Dodge\/\/SRT\u00ae<\/sup> Direct Connection\nHellcat Funny Car were a model of consistency in six runs this weekend in\npreparations for Monday\u2019s final eliminations in the 69th<\/sup> Dodge Power\nBrokers NHRA U.S. Nationals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hagan, the\nthree-time NHRA Camping World Funny Car Champion who ranks second in the\ncurrent points, advanced to the final round of the special Pep Boys Funny Car\nAll-Star Callout event Sunday before taking the runner-up position with a 3.979\nto Robert Hight\u2019s 3.955. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it was\nHagan\u2019s six consistent runs from Friday to Sunday which showed that his TSR\ncrew, led by Dickie Venables, is ready for Monday\u2019s eliminations in the hot and\nhumid weather conditions. Matt\u2019s qualifying rounds included a best of 3.912,\n3.928, 3,967, 3.979, 3.982 and 4.040 in the heat of the day on Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3.912\nlap gave Hagan the No. 4 qualifying position entering Monday\u2019s 16-car finals as\nhe will compete against Alex Laughlin in the first round. The 69th<\/sup>\nDodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals will be televised on the FOX Network\nbeginning at 2 p.m. EDT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt has\nbeen a long week here in Indy with Dodge events early in the week and then\nthree days of qualifying,\u201d said Hagan, the four-time 2023 NHRA national event\nwinner. \u201cBut I\u2019m very pleased with our six runs during qualifying as we didn\u2019t\nsmoke the tires once. And it prepares us for the always-tough Monday\neliminations. I feel that Dickie and the crew have done a great job in the hot\nand humid conditions that seem to come every year at the U.S. Nationals. It\nwould be so great to win another Dodge-backed event like we did in Denver with\nthe Dodge Mile-High Nationals. I feel good about our Dodge Hellcat Funny Car\nright now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leah\nPruett, Hagan\u2019s TSR teammate, qualified sixth in the Dodge\/\/SRT Direct\nConnection Top Fuel dragster with a solid 3.730 in the tight 16-car lineup set\nfor final eliminations at 10 a.m. EDT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pruett was\npleased with her performance in a 120-plus degree track surface Sunday\nafternoon as she clocked 3.790 in the mid-afternoon qualifying session. The\nformer Factory Stock Showdown champion at the U.S. Nationals will take on\nAustin Prock in the opening Top Fuel round. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConditions\nare always very difficult here at Indy for the U.S. Nationals,\u201d said Pruett,\nthe 2023 Summit Nationals Top Fuel champion. \u201cIt\u2019s hot and humid, and it\u2019s easy\nto lose traction with that type of weather. So that Sunday afternoon run with\nthe 3.790 was very impressive, and I know our crew guys have been working hard\nto get this Dodge\/\/SRT Direct Connection dragster prepared for the tough Monday\nrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
