Since the debut of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT\u00ae<\/sup> Demon, Byron Godbee has hosted exclusive racing events with his car club, Legion of Demons. The inaugural “First Gathering” took place at Houston Raceway Park in 2019, which remained a key location for the annual event through 2023. After HRP\u2019s closure, Godbee relocated the event to Texas Motorplex, where it has now successfully wrapped its second year. Over the past seven years, the event has expanded to welcome other high-performance Mopar\u00ae<\/sub> vehicles, but the past two years at Texas Motorplex have seen an overwhelming presence of the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. What started as the largest annual gathering of 2018 SRT Demon owners has now evolved into the ultimate meeting ground for SRT Demon 170 enthusiasts – creating an awe-inspiring showcase of modern Dodge performance.<\/p>\n\n\n

When Godbee launched Legion of Demons racing events in 2019, his mission was twofold: provide 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon owners with ideal conditions to set their best quarter-mile times and offer expert training in a low-pressure environment. To maximize drag racing conditions, he schedules the event in January, taking advantage of Texas’ optimal density altitude. Additionally, he has assembled a core group of experienced SRT Demon racers to coach attendees on drag racing techniques and the track-focused features of the SRT Demon lineup. Among these seasoned professionals are NMCA, NHRA and MSHS champions, along with some of the top tuners and shops in the Mopar community, including Tim Barth, Zdung Ho, Sipples Speed and Performance, Nth Moto, Bailys Hyperformance, Full Blown and MPR. The event\u2019s exclusive, stress-free setting – restricted to racers and crew members only – creates a relaxed atmosphere unlike a typical crowded track day. The result? A one-of-a-kind experience where owners refine their skills, set personal bests and, in some cases, achieve world-record runs.<\/p>\n\n\n

The 2025 Legion of Demons event took place at Texas Motorplex from January 16-18, with plans for at least 24 hours of racing over three days. While weather adjustments were necessary on the second day, the event still delivered 23 incredible hours of racing, with every participant achieving personal bests. The limited field of 65 entries meant racers could maximize track time, with the most dedicated making an astounding 50-60 quarter-mile passes. One of those runs was a new world record for a stock 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, set by Nephtali Garibay, who clocked an 8.86 at 151.85 mph.<\/p>\n\n\n

Beyond racing, the Legion of Demons community has fostered a tight-knit, family-like bond. Many attendees are so supportive that they even offer fellow racers a chance to drive their vehicles. Byron Godbee, who owns two 2018 SRT Demons, had never driven a 2023 SRT Demon 170 due to limited allocations and extreme markups. Despite multiple offers in the past, he finally took the plunge at the 2025 event when Andy Mac convinced him to make a single footbrake pass in his Plum Crazy SRT Demon 170. The result? A flawless launch and a 9.04-second run at 152 mph.<\/p>\n\n\n

This year\u2019s event hosted 69 vehicles and 175 participants, including racers, crew members and event staff. Notably, 27 of the vehicles were 2023 SRT Demon 170s – the largest gathering of SRT Demon 170s on a single track (up from 20 the previous year). In addition to the SRT Demon 170s, the lineup featured a range of high-performance Dodge and Mopar vehicles, including 2018 SRT Demons, SRT Hellcats, SRT Hellcat Redeyes, SRT Super Stocks, Scat Packs, Vipers, Trackhawks and the 2023 Chrysler 300C. While many vehicles retained their factory setups, a select few were running aftermarket twin-turbo configurations – including a 2018 SRT Demon, several Hellcat-powered Challengers and Chargers, a 392 HEMI\u00ae<\/sup> Challenger R\/T, and the world\u2019s first twin-turbo 2023 SRT Demon 170, built by 3 Demons Performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our goal when we started in 2019 was simple – get all our Demons into the 9s. Now, we\u2019re focused on providing racers with the track time and skills needed to master their cars while having a blast using them as they were meant to be used.
